New Orleans Throws Pre-Sugar Bowl Parade for Texas Fans

In New Orleans, it has become a tradition to throw a parade before the Sugar Bowl, creating a unique and exciting atmosphere for sports fans. This Mardi Gras-style celebration, known as the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Eve Parade, takes over the streets of the French Quarter with bands, beads, and enthusiastic supporters.

During the parade, our ABC13 cameras captured not only Texas fans but also proud Texas parents. Lashunda Ross, the mother of Huntsville High School alumnus T’Vondre Sweat, proudly displayed her burnt orange beads, refusing any purple beads offered to her. Yolanda Wells-Broughton, mother of University of Texas linebacker Vernon Broughton, embraced the festivities with a custom umbrella and a determination to protect herself from whatever New Orleans had in store.

Excitement filled the air as the parents expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming game and the opportunity for their sons to play in the National Championship. They were confident in their team’s abilities and believed that a Sugar Bowl victory would lead them back home to Houston for the ultimate showdown.

As the parade made its way along Decatur Street, these Houston UT Mommas emphasized their unwavering support for their sons and the Longhorns. They echoed the words of their coach, Sark, stating that it was “all gas and no brakes” for their team. They were determined to bring home a win and secure a spot in the Natty.

The anticipation was palpable as Lashunda expressed her belief in her son’s abilities and their team’s chances of victory. She confidently declared, “Come tomorrow, we’re going to win.”

In conclusion, the pre-Sugar Bowl parade in New Orleans is a vibrant and joyous celebration that brings together Texas fans and their proud parents. The excitement and anticipation for the game are evident as they show their support and express their confidence in their team’s success. With their eyes set on the National Championship, these dedicated fans are ready to cheer their team to victory.
