Conor McGregor Announces His Return to the UFC Against Michael Chandler in June 2024

Conor McGregor, the former UFC champion, has declared his comeback to the octagon. After a hiatus since his last fight in July 2021, McGregor revealed that he will be facing Michael Chandler in a middleweight bout at 185 pounds in June 2024. The fight is set to take place in Las Vegas during International Fight Week.

In a video posted on Twitter, McGregor made the announcement while enjoying a glass of wine at a restaurant. He confidently proclaimed, “I’d like to announce the return date for myself, The Notorious Conor McGregor, for the greatest comeback of all time. Will take place in Las Vegas on International Fight Week on June the 29th. And the opponent, Michael Chandler, and the weight, Mr. Chandler, 185 pounds.”

While McGregor’s claim has yet to be officially verified by the UFC or any other party, Michael Chandler did respond to the news across multiple posts. He expressed his desire to face McGregor at his best and stated that 185 pounds would suit him.

Both McGregor and Chandler have previously held titles at 155 pounds. McGregor became the UFC Lightweight champion in 2016 after transitioning from being the featherweight champion. On the other hand, Chandler, a former three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion, joined the UFC in 2020 and has since had a mixed record of 2-3.

McGregor’s recent fights have been challenging, with two losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021. He suffered a TKO defeat in January and a doctor stoppage due to a leg injury in June. McGregor’s last victory came in January 2020 when he defeated Donald Cerrone by TKO.

As fans eagerly await official confirmation from the UFC, McGregor’s announcement has generated significant excitement for his highly anticipated return to the octagon against Michael Chandler.
