Threats Against Methuen Schools Lead to Arrests and Increased Security Measures
In Methuen, Massachusetts, two teenagers have been apprehended following a series of threats against local schools. The Methuen Police Department has announced that one of the teens has been arrested, while the other has been summoned to appear in court. Both individuals are expected to be arraigned in juvenile court at a later date. The police referred the Timony School threat to the Methuen Public Schools for appropriate disciplinary action.
The following day, a more specific bomb threat targeting Methuen High School came to light on social media, prompting students and parents to report it to the authorities. The Methuen Police Department identified two 14-year-old suspects in connection with the high school threat. One of the suspects was arrested at their home on Sunday, while the other was summoned to court. Both suspects were students at Methuen High School.
While the police did not consider the threats to be credible, they took the necessary precautions by working with local firefighters and regional K9 teams to conduct a sweep of Methuen High School. The 14-year-old suspects may face additional charges as investigators gather more information.
The police expressed gratitude to community members who reported the threat against Methuen High School and acknowledged the recent tragedy at a high school in Georgia, where four people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting.
