Man Accused of Killing Wife’s Boyfriend and Forcing Her to Help Dispose of the Body

A shocking incident unfolded in Harris County, Texas, when a man allegedly killed his estranged wife’s boyfriend in front of her and then compelled her to assist in disposing of the body. The suspect, 48-year-old Michael Maurice Mack, is currently being sought by authorities for the murder of 53-year-old Kelvin Hinton.

The harrowing events took place in a home located in the Katy area, where Hinton reportedly broke in wearing a tactical vest and armed with multiple guns. Both Hinton and the woman were startled awake to find Mack standing over them with a rifle. According to the woman, Mack used the rifle to fatally shoot Hinton in the neck.

Following the murder, charging documents reveal that Mack coerced his wife into firing shots at Hinton’s lifeless body and subjected her to physical assault. He then allegedly threatened her life if she did not assist him in disposing of the body. Mack is accused of wrapping the victim’s remains in bedsheets and loading them into the trunk of his wife’s car.

Mack and his wife then embarked on a chilling journey, driving approximately 120 miles to a gated lot in Vidor, Texas, located on Old Highway 90 West. There, Mack is said to have dumped Hinton’s body, doused it in gasoline, and set it on fire. The details of this gruesome act highlight the heinous nature of the crime.

After returning to the Houston area, Mack allowed his wife to go free, and she wasted no time in contacting the authorities to report the horrifying events she had been forced to participate in.

According to court documents, Mack and his wife had been separated for over a year, despite having married in 2019. The motive behind the crime remains unclear, but it is evident that their relationship had deteriorated significantly.

Kelvin Hinton, the victim in this tragic incident, leaves behind two daughters and several grandchildren. His family shares that he had recently been making positive changes in his life, obtaining his truck driving license after serving time in prison. Hinton’s brother, Michael Lewis, revealed that his late brother had just started dating the woman involved and had mentioned instances of her estranged husband stalking her. However, the severity of the situation only became apparent after Hinton’s untimely death.

It is worth noting that Mack had previously been arrested for harassing his wife through repeated phone calls. Although he had posted bail, he violated the bond conditions that prohibited him from contacting his wife.

As authorities continue their search for Michael Maurice Mack, they urge anyone with information about the case or his whereabouts to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers. This shocking crime serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help and support in such situations.
