Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Agrees to Vice Presidential Debate with JD Vance on CBS News

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has confirmed that he will be participating in a vice presidential debate on CBS News on October 1. This announcement came after CBS News extended an invitation to both Walz and Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance, offering them several dates as options for a debate in New York City. Walz responded to the invitation on social media, expressing his enthusiasm for the debate, saying, “See you on October 1, JD.”

The acceptance of Walz’s invitation was confirmed by a Kamala Harris campaign official, who stated, “Harris for President has accepted CBS’ invitation to a Vice Presidential Candidate Debate on October 1. Governor Walz looks forward to debating JD Vance – if he shows up.” However, Vance has not yet committed to debating Walz on October 1. In an interview on Fox News, Vance explained that while he strongly suspects he will participate, he wants to discuss the rules and parameters of the debate with CBS. He also argued against a debate without an audience, stating, “I actually think we should do more than one debate. So hopefully we’re going to see him on October 1, but hopefully we’re going to see him, either before or after that, because I think it’s important for the American people to actually see us discuss our views.”

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Harris has accepted an invitation for a debate. In May, before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Harris accepted an invitation from CBS News to debate Donald Trump’s future running mate on either July 23 or August 13. At that time, Trump also announced on his Truth Social platform that his campaign had accepted an invitation for his future running mate to participate in a Fox News debate. However, with Biden no longer in the race, Harris ascended to the top of the Democratic ticket and selected Walz as her running mate last week.

Harris and Trump have already agreed to meet for a presidential debate on ABC News on September 10. This will be the second presidential debate of the year, following Trump’s faceoff with Biden on CNN in late June. It is worth mentioning that Biden’s performance in that debate raised concerns among Democrats, ultimately leading to his decision to exit the race.

In summary, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has accepted an invitation to participate in a vice presidential debate on CBS News on October 1. While JD Vance has not yet confirmed his participation, it is expected that he will also take part in the debate. This debate will be an important opportunity for the American people to see the candidates discuss their views and policies. Additionally, it is noteworthy that Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have already agreed to a presidential debate on ABC News on September 10, marking the second presidential debate of the year.
