Her mother, Rosa Doherty, is grieving the loss of her “beautiful daughter” and expressed her gratitude for the love and support they have received throughout Shannen’s life.

The news of Shannen’s death was announced by her longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane, who described her as a “devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.” Sloane revealed that Shannen had lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. Shannen was surrounded by her loved ones, including her dog Bowie, at the time of her passing.

Shannen’s cancer journey began in 2015 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. However, the diagnosis only became public knowledge when she sued her former business managers for mismanaging her money and allowing her health insurance to lapse. This resulted in a delayed diagnosis, allowing the cancer to spread.

Despite the challenges, Shannen remained determined and courageous throughout her battle. She regularly updated her fans on her health and in 2016, she revealed that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. She even expressed her belief that she would be dead within five years. However, less than a year later, she announced that she was in remission and referred to herself as a “cancer slayer.”

Unfortunately, in February 2020, Shannen revealed that her cancer had returned and was now stage 4. She admitted to being scared and petrified of what the future held. In June 2023, she shared the devastating news that the cancer had metastasized to her brain.

Throughout her journey, Shannen drew strength from her mother, who had been diagnosed with a brain aneurysm when Shannen was just 8 years old. Her mother taught her the importance of being tenacious and never giving up. Shannen attributed her fighting spirit to her upbringing, stating that she was raised to be strong and believe that she could overcome any challenge.
