Christian Scott Rejoins Mets Rotation, Set to Start Against Nationals

Christian Scott, the Mets’ top pitching prospect, has been called back up to the major league team after a stint in Triple-A Syracuse. Scott had initially been optioned back to Syracuse on May 30 but was reassured that he would return to the big leagues soon. The right-hander will rejoin the Mets ahead of his scheduled start against the Nationals.

In his first stint with the team, Scott impressed with a 3.90 ERA in five starts, including a dominant debut against the Tampa Bay Rays where he only allowed one earned run over 6 ²/₃ innings. During his time back in Syracuse, the 25-year-old focused on making adjustments to his offspeed pitches and working on consistency in his approach against both right-handed and left-handed hitters.

The Mets had initially considered implementing a six-man rotation that included Scott, but due to the need for bullpen help following Edwin Diaz’s suspension, they decided to option Tylor Megill to Syracuse instead. This decision puts Scott in a position to start three games before the All-Star break.

Scott has shown promising stuff on the mound, with an average fastball velocity of 94.3 mph and a repertoire that includes a slider, splitter, and sweeper. He has also displayed excellent control, walking only six batters in 27 ²/₃ innings. Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Scott’s composure and competitiveness, noting that even when he’s not at his best, he still gives his all.

In terms of workload management, Scott pitched 70 innings this season between Syracuse and the Mets. While there isn’t a specific innings cap for him, the team will monitor his workload closely to ensure his long-term health. Scott himself is focused on staying healthy and continuing to improve throughout the season.

Mendoza emphasized that the team’s performance staff will play a vital role in guiding Scott’s development and monitoring his recovery after each outing. The Mets are also hopeful that Kodai Senga will return after the All-Star break, which could lead to the implementation of a six-man rotation to provide extra rest for the Japanese right-hander.

For Scott, his main goal is to contribute to the Mets’ success and help the team reach the postseason. He is determined to pitch his heart out and give everything he has for the team’s benefit. With his talent, composure, and dedication, Scott has the potential to be a valuable asset in the Mets’ rotation moving forward.
