Sean Manaea Dominates as Mets Sweep Yankees in Subway Series

Mets’ Sean Manaea Shines in Subway Series Sweep over Yankees

In a dominant performance, left-hander Sean Manaea pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits before an 87-minute delay forced him out of the game. Despite the unfortunate break, Manaea’s performance was crucial in the Mets’ Subway Series sweep over the Yankees at Citi Field, resulting in a resounding 12-2 victory.

Manaea’s success can be attributed to his ability to induce double plays, with three recorded in the first four innings. One notable play occurred when Alex Verdugo hit into a double play, ending the first inning with the bases loaded. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner’s visit seemed to have a positive impact on Manaea’s performance.

Reflecting on his performance, Manaea acknowledged his tendency to overthink, leading to walks. He recognized the need to trust his abilities and let the game unfold naturally. Fortunately, he settled down after a shaky start, ultimately securing the win for the Mets.

Meanwhile, Kodai Senga is set to participate in live batting practice against minor leaguers at Citi Field. The right-hander, who has been sidelined with a strained shoulder, hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment soon.

Mark Vientos’ impressive two-homer game against Gerrit Cole on Tuesday can be credited to an approach he discussed with Carlos Beltran during a conversation in Chicago. Beltran advised Vientos to focus on utilizing his opposite-field power, a strategy that paid off as Vientos contributed two RBIs in the Mets’ blowout victory.

Brett Baty, another young third baseman in the organization, continued to showcase his talent with two more home runs during Triple-A Syracuse’s game. In contrast, Baty’s success at the minor league level has not translated to the majors. On the other hand, Vientos has seized the opportunity since being recalled in mid-May.

There is also encouraging news regarding right-hander Shintaro Fujinami, currently on the 15-day injured list with a shoulder strain. Fujinami pitched a scoreless inning in a rehab game and is expected to have at least one more outing before returning to the Mets. Despite a rough start to the season with the Oakland Athletics, Fujinami showed promise with the Orioles last year.

The Mets’ recent success against the Yankees continued, with a solid 10-3 record in their last 13 home games. Additionally, their impressive record of 15-6 in June places them at the top of MLB. The team’s offensive power was evident as they hit three home runs for the third consecutive game, a feat not accomplished this year until now.

Even with right-hander Luis Gil on the mound for the Yankees, Mets’ manager Mendoza made an interesting lineup decision, choosing Tyrone Taylor over other lefty-swingers. Taylor proved Mendoza’s faith right by hitting a three-run homer in the sixth inning, contributing to the Mets’ blowout win. Gil has proven to be a formidable opponent for both right and left-handed hitters this season.

Harrison Bader also showcased his skills, recording his third consecutive multi-hit game with a double and a home run. In his last three games, he has gone 6-for-12 with three doubles and two home runs.

Finally, Joe Hudson, who temporarily served as the Mets’ backup catcher, was designated for assignment and subsequently outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse after Luis Torrens returned from paternity leave.
