HOUSTON, Texas — A teenager was arrested and accused of driving while intoxicated after a homeless man was killed in west Houston Friday evening.

Tragic Incident on Katy Freeway

The Houston Police Department reported that a man sleeping under the bridge on the Katy Freeway at Silber overpass was struck by an SUV around 11:30 p.m.

Suspected Intoxication

According to authorities, a 17-year-old driver is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident. Eyewitness News revealed that the teen lost control of his vehicle, veered onto the curb under the bridge, and tragically ran over the homeless man, resulting in his death.

Swift Action by a Good Samaritan

After the teen’s Mercedes SUV came to a stop, he attempted to flee the scene. However, a quick-thinking Jack in the Box employee sprinted across the feeder road, apprehended the 17-year-old, and held him until the police arrived.
