Former child star Frankie Muniz recently opened up about his temporary departure from the hit sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle.” Muniz, who is currently a contestant on “I’m A Celebrity Australia,” revealed to his fellow campers that he walked off the set for several weeks during the show’s run. The reason behind his departure? Muniz cited unfavorable interactions with certain individuals on set, describing them as controlling, rude, and disrespectful.

During its six-year run from 2000 to 2006, “Malcolm in the Middle” gained a massive following with its portrayal of a dysfunctional family. Muniz played the role of Malcolm, the genius middle brother, alongside Christopher Masterson as the delinquent Francis and Justin Berfield as the annoying second-oldest brother Reese. Erik Per Sullivan portrayed the precocious younger brother Dewey, while Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek played the parents Hal and Lois Wilkerson.

Muniz expressed his frustration at seeing others afraid to stand up for themselves in the face of these controlling individuals on set. He was so mortified by this behavior that he felt compelled to speak up, even if it meant risking his own position on the show. Muniz admitted that he didn’t care if they told him he would never return because it was worth it to him. He eventually moved to Arizona on a whim and discovered a newfound appreciation for nature and simple pleasures like grocery shopping. This contrasted with his experience in LA, which he described as a miserable one.

During his time on “Malcolm in the Middle,” Muniz also ventured into the world of film, starring in hit movies such as “Big Fat Liar” (2002), “Agent Cody Banks” (2003), and “Racing Stripes” (2005). By the end of the sitcom’s run, he was earning an impressive $150,000 per episode.

Following his departure from Hollywood, Muniz pursued a career as a professional race car driver. He is now married to Paige Price, and the couple has a 3-year-old son.
