Christopher McDonald reveals that the script for ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ has been written

Adam Sandler fans, rejoice! It seems that a sequel to the beloved 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore is in the works. Actor Christopher McDonald, who played the iconic Shooter McGavin in the original film, spilled the beans during an interview on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan radio show.

According to McDonald, he recently met up with Sandler and was shown the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2. Although he jokingly suggested cutting that part out of the show, McDonald confirmed that a sequel is indeed in the works. “Fans demand it, dammit!” he exclaimed.

While Sandler himself has not revealed any details about the project, McDonald expressed his excitement and satisfaction with the script. As fans eagerly await further updates, it’s clear that the possibility of revisiting the world of Happy Gilmore has sparked a wave of nostalgia and anticipation.

For those unfamiliar with the original film, Happy Gilmore tells the story of a rowdy amateur hockey player who discovers his hidden talent for golf thanks to his unconventional slapshot-style swing. In a bid to save his grandmother’s house from foreclosure, he joins a golf tournament and draws the ire of professional golfer Shooter McGavin.

The film not only showcased Sandler’s comedic talents but also featured an ensemble cast including Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Kevin Nealon, and the late Carl Weathers, who sadly passed away last month at the age of 76. Additionally, Happy Gilmore boasted memorable cameos from Bob Barker, who passed away in August of last year at the impressive age of 99.

Happy Gilmore has cemented its place as a comedy classic, joining other Sandler hits from the ’90s such as Billy Madison, Big Daddy, and The Waterboy. With its unique blend of physical comedy, witty one-liners, and heartwarming moments, the film has left an indelible mark on audiences and continues to be a beloved favorite.

As news of Happy Gilmore 2 spreads, fans can’t help but speculate on what adventures await their favorite characters. Will Shooter McGavin seek redemption? Will Happy Gilmore’s unorthodox golfing techniques be challenged? Only time will tell.

For now, Sandler enthusiasts eagerly await further updates on the sequel. Whether it’s the return of familiar faces, new comedic talents joining the cast, or unexpected twists and turns in the story, Happy Gilmore 2 has the potential to capture the hearts of fans once again. Until then, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that this highly anticipated sequel lives up to the comedic brilliance of its predecessor.
