Rescue Operation Saves 23 Skiers and Snowboarders in Killington, Vermont

A group of twenty-three skiers and snowboarders were successfully rescued in frigid temperatures after getting lost in the backcountry of Killington, Vermont, according to local police. The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting a call for help at around 2:30 p.m. Search and rescue teams, including members of Killington Search and Rescue and the Killington Resort Ski Patrol, embarked on a challenging mission to bring the lost individuals back to safety.

The rescue crews utilized various methods such as hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing with skins to cover a distance of approximately 5 miles (8 kilometers). Despite the single-digit temperatures, the rescuers persevered and managed to locate the group of twenty-one lost skiers and riders. After ensuring their well-being, the rescuers transported them back to safety in their vehicles, providing much-needed warmth.

However, the operation was not yet over. Another call came in for two additional lost skiers. Undeterred by the previous rescue effort, six rescuers immediately returned to the woods. They successfully located the stranded individuals and guided them out of danger, ultimately bringing them to safety at around 7:30 p.m.

The Killington police department expressed their gratitude towards all the volunteers who responded and contributed to the successful rescue operation. Their dedication and efforts played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of the lost skiers and snowboarders.
