December 12, 2023

Two individuals from Houston have been charged with smuggling migrants along the Texas border, according to state troopers. The incident occurred in Kinney County on Monday.

Rocio Caldren, an 18-year-old migrant from El Salvador living illegally in Houston, was pulled over by troopers for smuggling four undocumented migrants. Caldren had allegedly been paid $4,000 to transport the migrants from Mexico to San Antonio.

Lieutenant Chris Olivarez shared a video on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), showing the moment troopers discovered the hidden migrants, including one found in Caldren’s trunk.

In a separate incident, another driver from Houston was also arrested for human smuggling. The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that troopers found six migrants hidden in his vehicle. The driver’s name and age have not been disclosed.

Both suspects are facing state felony charges for smuggling and have been taken into custody. The migrants have been referred to the U.S. Border Patrol for further processing.

These arrests highlight the ongoing issue of human smuggling along the Texas border and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat this illegal activity.
