“115 Australian Companies Recognized for Combating Workplace Gender Inequality: Coles, Woolworths, Deloitte, and More”

Australia’s Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) has recognized 115 companies for their efforts to combat workplace gender inequality. The WGEA, established in 2012 by the Gillard Labor government, aims to promote gender equality and women’s participation in Australian workplaces. These companies, which collectively employ nearly 505,000 Australians, have received the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation.

The list of EOCGE citation holders includes a diverse range of organizations. Supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths, superannuation funds Australian Super and Aware Super, professional services firm Deloitte Australia, law firm DLA Piper, and universities have all been recognized for their commitment to gender equality. Even construction and real estate management firms such as CPB Contractors, John Holland Group, Lifestyle Communities Ltd, Stockland, and Transurban have made the cut.

WGEA CEO Mary Wooldridge commended these organizations for their dedication to addressing gender inequality. She emphasized that the actions of these employers serve as an example for others to follow in improving gender equality in the workplace. These companies have implemented strategies to achieve a better balance of women and men in leadership positions. They have also taken steps to address pay discrepancies, recruitment biases, and promotion inequities.

The 115 organizations recognized by the WGEA consist of both first-time applicants and renewing organizations. While most companies are based in Victoria and New South Wales, it is worth noting that only one organization from the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) made it onto the list.

In addition to recognizing these companies, the WGEA has announced a temporary suspension of applications for the EOCGE citation. This pause will allow the government body to review how it can better assist employers in meeting the requirements for gender equality. The WGEA is committed to continuously improving its support for organizations striving to create more inclusive and equitable workplaces.
